Thoughts from Pastor Bob
As we now continue our journey here on earth, we approach the season of Lent. Ash Wednesday is February 18th this year. There are some misconceptions concerning Ash Wednesday and Lent.
Are Ash Wednesday and Lent Protestant holidays or strictly Roman Catholic holidays? As Christians, we are to follow the teaching of Jesus Christ, our Savior. We are also to follow Scripture as our reference guide. Scripture refers to a time when Jesus began His Ministry by spending 40 days in the desert. During this period, He was tempted by Satan.
We too, have been called into the desert to be tempted. Everyday life consists of desert time and is filled with temptation. Like Jesus, we need to recall Scripture when confronting Satan. So, since desert times and temptation are Human experiences, Ash Wednesday and Lent are universal to the Christian.
