Thoughts from Pastor Bob
On February 14, 2024, we began the season of Lent. By definition, Lent is the period of forty days prior to Easter. This period was modelled after Jesus’ forty days in the desert prior to His ministry.
Typically, many Christian religions use this period to prepare for the Resurrection of the Lord. It is a period of self-imposed sacrifice. When I was a child, I gave up candy for Lent. That made the candy I got on Easter taste that much better. Christ sacrificed so much more than candy. He humbled Himself to leave Heaven and become a man. He humbled Himself before Pilate and suffered a horrible death. His Life was one of sacrifice. HE WAS THE SACRIFICE.
If you choose to sacrifice, make it worthy. Giving up something that is insignificant or is not a temptation at all is not worthy. A friend of mine gives up liver & onions for Lent. He hates liver & onions. To me, that is no sacrifice. How about giving up a Saturday to work in a food pantry? If your prayer life or Bible reading has suffered, how about sacrificing your time to make those areas better. Whatever your sacrifice, remember the ultimate Sacrifice of our Lord Jesus.
This season, we will have a Good Friday service on Friday, March 29, at 6:00 PM. We will again have a Sunrise Service on Sunday, March 31. According to an app I have, the sun is scheduled to appear at 7:08 AM. We will gather at 7:00 AM at the cross of Lee Conaway’s pasture. We will have the traditional morning service at 9:00 AM. Breakfast will be served between the sunrise service and the traditional service.
Please contact me directly with any questions or concerns. I am in the office on Tuesday morning or am available any other time by appointment. Our worship service is on Sundays at 10:30 AM. Bible study (Sunday School) is at 9:30 AM. There is a class for every age.
Obediently,
